JET AIRWAYS
- Reviving the Paris-Chennai Route -
Jet Airways is India's second largest airline and member of the Etihad group. The Persian Gulf-based company holds 24% of the shares in Jet Airways, which allows the first private South Asian airline to strengthen its position, both locally and internationally. In India, Jet Airways operates from 5 main bases (Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, and Kolkata) as well as a European base in Amsterdam. Thanks to this powerful network, the Indian airline operates over 300 flights daily to 68 destinations. Today, the company operates 104 aircraft among which the ATR72 and Boeing 737 for short/medium-haul flights, and Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330 for long-haul. The fleet is also expecting 75 Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 10 Boeing 787-9, the latter of which will replace the current Airbus A330 in order to have a full Boeing long haul fleet.
PARIS CDG AIRPORT
Since October the 29th, Jet Airways has been flying 5 times a week (Thursday to Monday) between Chennai, the main city in Tamil Nadu, and the French capital. The Flying Feathers are pleased to welcome you in "Premiere" class on flight 9W127 from Paris to Chennai to present Jet Airways' business class.
As an Etihad group company, Jet Airways benefits from the famous terminal 2C at Paris-CDG, which also welcomes Emirates, Gulf Air, Saudia, and of course Etihad. Flight 9W127, operated in code-sharing with Air France-KLM and Delta Airlines, leaves the French capital at 10:10 am to land in old Madras nine hours and thirty-five minutes later at 00:15 am. Early in the morning, check-in counters and security formalities are quite fluid to reach the airside areas.
Terminal 2A/C offers a wide choice of luxury shops such as Gucci, Dior, Burberry, or Hermès for fashion and cosmetics.
ETIHAD LOUNGE
The latter offers a large relaxation area with sofas, televisions, but also a wide selection of French and international press. To enjoy breakfast, travelers are invited to join the dedicated area where two options are offered with either a buffet, offering a wide choice of dishes, or an "à la carte service".
Once the boarding time arrives, passengers are invited to join their boarding gate. Today's aircraft is a 4 years old Airbus A330-300, registered VT-JWR.
THE CABIN
In the latter, solo travelers can enjoy a window seat, and couples can enjoy central seats positioned side by side.
Business Class seats have a wide legroom of 124cm (43cm more than in Economy Class) and a width of 53cm (7cm more than in Economy).
The seat can be configured in three different travel positions: a Normal position, essentially for takeoff and landing, a Comfort position that offers a relaxed, semi-reclined position, and obviously the Sleep position with with a fully flat bed. In addition to that, it is obviously possible to configure each part of the seat in the desired position.
On these comfortable seats, you can also enjoy the JetScreen which offers over 600 hours of entertainment with a wide selection of Hollywood or Bollywood movies, music and on-demand video clips with 9 channels and over 70 audio CDs to listen to with headphones provided by Jet Airways.
In addition to the JetScreen, the Indian airline also offers its Jet Magazine with lots of information on its destinations and others.
AMNENITY KIT
For the amenity kit, Jet Airways has chosen Chopard, which is filled with body lotion, a toothbrush and toothpaste, and lip balm. For night flights, the Indian airline also offers pajamas for a more comfortable night on the flat bed
CATERING
On this flight, two different dining services are offered "à la carte", a lunch shortly after takeoff and a light meal before arriving in Chennai. Today we have chosen the French menu.
Soon after departure, an aperitif is offered with an appetizer as an accompaniment. For us, it will be a Billecart-Salmon Champagne and some peanuts.
For the starter, it will be salad with a healthy combination of fibrous quinoa, starfruit, cucumber, Kalamata olives, and red onion salsa.
For dinner, it will simply be a light meal, and tonight we have opted for the Indian selection with masala shrimp accompanied by its Malabar paratha, a specialty of braised shrimp with red shallots, coconut, cracked black pepper, and tamarind.
In addition to the wine list, Jet Airways offers a "Sky Chai" service, which is a selection of premium Indian tea such as Masala Chai, Earl Grey, or the famous Darjeeling.
ARRIVAL AT CHENNAI AIRPORT
The early arrival in Chennai of flight 9W127 allows for quick access to the baggage carousel and then to discover the international terminal, renovated in 2014.
The terminal proves to be modern with all necessary amenities. Restaurants, resting areas, showers, prayer rooms: Chennai airport, since its modernization, ranks alongside Mumbai and Delhi airports, albeit on a smaller scale, of course.
